Since the dawn of civilization the human society is divided in to two sections. One is “Haves” and other is “Have nots” the first one is further divided in to Aristocracy and Middle class.

“Have nots” is most oppressed section since the time immemorial. Any form of government may be in-power but could not do in spite of their best efforts much, and they remain oppressed, leading a life just for the sake of living no cloths, No food and no medical care.

When the “Lord Jesus Christ” was crucified, the blood drained from his wounds, when touched Lepers their agony was vanished immediately.

Likewise in every era there emerged a person who was symbolized as “Propagator of Good” who took up their cause. There were people who joined and became organizations and started working for their cause. Tradition is still prevalent and many societies are working in same line.

One such N.G.O. known as “Jamuna Sewa Sanstha” is very active for the cause of down trodden. It passed a resolution affiliating “Jamuna Sewa Sadan & Research Centre” & making its head Dr. A. K Tandon their vice chairman & spouse Dr. Smita Tandon as the treasurer of the N.G.O. and authorized the couple to propagate the objectives of the N.G.O and generate sources to cater the medical need of poor section of the society also create such sources which can make themselves self sufficient, like arranging nursing school, so that after taking nursing training, they can take up the employment in the hospitals & make themselves able to support their families.

The Doctor Couple took their responsibilities to their heart, and appealed to almost all the societies, clubs and people in general to come together, to work together and uplift the “Penurious Depressed Society” where the God actually inhabits.

The call was enthusiastically met and the different organization Khatri Hitkarini Sabha, Lions club international, Rotary Club international and many others joined hands with Dr A. K. Tandon and Dr. Smita Tandon in their fight for the noble cause.

Aims, objectives and cause were clear. ‘Jamuna Sewa Sadan & Research Centre’ was fully devoted to the cause of oppressed.

Under the Banner of “Flag ship” N.G.O. “Jamuna Sewa Sanstha” its entire team was marching ahead.

Orphanages were visited and found the kids crying, the tears on their cheeks were making their story conspicuous. Polio drops were administered and tears from their cheeks were wiped. The Dr. Couple’s job was tough, at the same time satisfaction and peace giving to the mind.

Dr. A.K.Tandon took his Medicines Doctorate degree in the year1992. The young lad saw the God not in the stone statue of deity in the temple but in the teeming millions suffering from the want of medical care. There were two questions before him 1st to support his family & establish himself in his professional qualification, 2nd to severe tearful God in term of suffering humanity. A thought took in his mind that “Service to humanity is service to God” & better way of serving & worshiping of God and this is how Tuesday became a day of his free OPD. Firstly on his bicycle and then on his scoter he went door to door & village to village to take care of poor section of society & there emerged a men with a mission to eradicate the want of medical care from the poor section of society.

Slow and study wins the race. Dr A.k. Tandon’s clinic “Jamuna sewa sadan & research center” came up as clinic for the poor ‘At affordable rates’ he kept his OPD charges at rupees 20/- Only which are still prevailing. The most modern equipment ICCU/ICU and O.T. was created to cater the need of medical profession & to serve the lowest section of society so that they may not feel neglected for the want of medical sophistication. A fully fledged hospital was there which was only hope for the eyes searching for the hope.

Dr. A. K. Tandon became the man of poor masses and a big hope for them. OPD was full and he was taking care of it even without the lunch break surrounded by the patient for their turn.
Got married in the year1990. Dr. Smita Tandon his better half stood by his side in all his endeavour like a pillar and true traditional Indian woman a ‘Gynecology & obstetrics’ by profession with strong inclinations for upliftment of weaker section of society. Most popular among patients for amiable manners & medical skills of hers.

Dr. Tandon was born and brought up in very affluent family of Tandons with two siblings. Father Shri K. K. Tandon is reputed advocate with extreme of taxation, Uncle Kailash Tandon was M.L.A. Of the area and man of the masses, another uncle retired as D.C.G. from civil court.

Dr. A. k. Tandon within short span of time touched the panicles of heights & wrote many articles in national & international journals. The main aim was that “The clinic epidemiological aspects in kala-azar “and failures of the treatment of this lethal disease due to lacuna in government policy, which ultimate made the government think to change and remove the hurdles. The man traveled a lot abroad and become a member of many societies like a “American diabetes association Regional ISSD and American congress of cardiology”. He become “Prozac” for penurious depressed society.
There was no question of seeing back man of the mission move forward and became a member, president, zonal chairman, regional chairman, and chairman of health committee of lion’s international club (Charitable).


To educate the masses how to combat and to treat, screening of Asthma, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases, ENT, Gynecological Disorders, Various Disabilities & Gastroenterological Diseases Various camps were organized.

As a president of “Lions Club International” initiated large scale ‘Hepatitis B Immunization’ activities for the benefit of inhabitants of Varanasi. Approximately more than 3 lacks people were benefited.
Dr. Narendra Nath Khanna chief consultant of Escorts Heart Institute of Delhi was invited and free cardiological consultations, investigations and treatment were provided. 2D-Echo was performing first time in the city on more than 500 patients. A confabulation on ‘Myocardial Infarction’ was held and Dr. Narendra Nath Khanna and Dr. A. K. Tandon were major spokes persons.

To eradicate Polio, polio corrective surgery was performed on around 125 patients. Similar camps were organized to operate hernia, hydrocele & cataracts. Dr. Tandon was awarded best President of district 321 E, Best zonal chairperson and best Regional chair person. Due to his pains taking efforts and devoted social worker “KHATRI HITKARINI SABHA” awarded him the title “KHATRI-JATI RATAN” in 2008. His Excellency the governor of Haryana Dr. A.K. Kidwai decorated him with “Rajiv Gandhi Shiromani” award in New Delhi in the same year for his state and national level health awareness program.

He received many awards from many societies the major one is prestigious “Kashi Ratan”. The Honorable Minister of Education and Irrigation department Shri Om Prakesh handed over the Keyes of “New Ambulance” for the benefit of down trodden.

Dr. Tandon humble and down to earth person and temperamentally soft cornered for the weaker section of the society, his life partner Dr Mrs. Smita Tandon an excellent social worker under the banner of “Jamuna Sewa Sanstha” are striving hard for establishing a nursing school for the unemployed youngsters so that they can get themselves employed in the hospitals and make themselves economically not dependent.

Medical care today requires highly scientific diagnosis and the instrument required for this are of high cost like M.R.I, CT SCAN, COLOUR DOPPLER & ANGIOGRAPHY etc. Without these instruments diagnosis can be affected and poor people who cannot go for the investigational higher cost and suffer for the want of proper treatment.

‘Jamuna Sewa Sanstha’ requires aids to establish the “Nursing School” & to procure these instruments so that poor and below poverty line does not feel neglected and go without treatment.

The “Aims and Objects” are super and requires supporting hands. Let’s come forward and make the Aims and objects of ‘Jamuna Sewa Sanstha’ a unique N.G.O. in operation a “Grand Success”.
