Sagar city has its own unique significance in the field of education for last many decades. M.P. first University i.e. Dr. H. S. Gour University (old name Sagar University) is situated in Sagar. For the industrial development of Bundelkhand region in government established Engineering College in November 1981 Lasted this institute has been named Indira Gandhi Engineering College in the year 1985.
Campus of Institute
Initially in the year 1981 the institute was started in the Education college of the University. Since December 1986 this institute started in the newly constructed building of Technical School. Subsequently in year 1985 Government of M.P. allotted 220 Acures of land near Baheria village just 10 km. away from Sagar city. where the following construction work has been completed.

The IGEC Sagar has well-equipped laboratories, library and hostel facilities for girls and boys. The institute with its rich faculty resources has strived to provide value added high quality education with practical skills to provide all round professional competence. The Institute offers B.E degree courses in five disciplines i.e., Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology & Mechanical Engineering.
