More about Godhuli Foundation

MISSION
The foundation is based on the idea of creating a sustainable environment for holistic growth of societies that are deprived of basic amenities because of lack of knowledge and funding from various quarters which aim at provisioning of healthy drinking water, maintenance of hygiene (provisioning of toilets, spread of sexual knowledge among adolescent girls, etc.), spread of education specially in the field of IT and other modern innovations which otherwise might create a gap in the prevailing education system vis-à-vis global education standards, eradication of several infectious diseases like leprosy, tuberculosis, filariasis, malnutrition, enteric and diarrheal diseases some of which are still considered incurable and social taboo in most of these underdeveloped societies. The foundation will strive in identification of several sources of funding, leave no stone unturned in raising own funds by various means like cow breeding, organic farming, pisciculture, selling own indigenous dairy products like ghee, etc. and make available to those who really deserve it.
OBJECTIVE
In this era of globalisation where in several large & small corporate houses, charity foundations and other NGOs have proliferated the nation, there still exists ample scope of development in far flung areas like Aurangabad & Gaya districts of Bihar where people below poverty line constitute a majority of 42.6% which is alarming in comparison to the national average of 26.10%. The foundation aims at creating a model of growth in some selected villages of the district and then nurturing several such models in the aftermath in the light of successful case studies.
VISION
The vision of the foundation is to achieve six fundamental values of freedom, equality, solidarity, tolerance, respect for nature & shared responsibility declared and formally approved by the United Nations General Assembly in September 2000. The foundation will strive to contribute to the following eight development goals enumerated in the said declaration:
Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger.
Achieve universal primary education.
Promote gender equality and empower women.
Reduce child mortality.
Improve maternal health.
Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases.
Ensure environment sustainability.
Develop a global partnership for development.
AIM
The foundation aims at making several basic amenities like shelter, food, medicine, healthy drinking water, toilets, street lights, schools, hospitals, etc. within reach of poor and destitute residing in the remotest part of the country. The broad areas in which the foundation aims at involving are:
SHELTERS
Shelters being provided by government agencies lack in several factors as availability of local resources, innovation in design and involvement of middleman and bureaucrats are not taken into account. The foundation aims at building innovative shelters with improvised design at a minimal cost in collaboration with government agencies and other funding organization.
HEALTHCARE
The foundation believes that the amount of money being invested by several government agencies and international agencies in the field is not paying the requisite dividends because of several factors enumerated below which the foundation aims at resolving thereby increasing the efficacy of measures adopted by government agencies and organizations like WHO, UNICEF, etc.
Lack of facilities for identification of people who are in direct need of medical attention.
Non - reporting of several diseases like leprosy which are still considered social taboo in most underdeveloped societies.
Lack of Knowledge of importance of hygiene and sanitation.
Inability of government medical workers in reaching out to masses because of apathy from several quarters.
Non availability of funds for establishment of permanent medical facilities in far flung areas.
Lack of health awareness and its importance for individual wellbeing.
Bridging the gap between investors who wish to contribute in improvement of global health scenario and those who really deserve attention.
Making and maintaining relations with international organisations dealing on the subject directly thereby eliminating the involvement of other government and non- government agencies with selfish interests.
Identification of several social customs giving rise to serious health ailments and making the masses aware about their disadvantages.
EDUCATION
The female literacy rate of Bihar averages on 33.1% which paints a very sad picture when compared to national average of 53.7%. Because of apathy from several quarters, nothing significant is being done to improve the situation which leaves ample scope of work required to be done. The foundation aims at identifying those gaps and sufficing them by adopting various measures enumerated below:
Acting like a watchdog for existing government schools by sensitising parents and education department officials. Reporting of actual situation to higher officials by various means e.g. written complaint, suggestions for improvement, etc.
Working diligently for fulfilment of requirement of training of teachers on various modern aids like IT peripherals, audio visual tools, etc.
Raising funds for establishment of good pre nursery schools and schools for coaching students for higher studies like medical & engineering entrance examination in remote corners.
Bridging gap between investors and the needful.
Sensitising the environment on the need of education via pamphlets and door-to-door campaigns.
Conducting lectures by ambassadors of the organization.
HYGIENE & SANITATION
The requirement of hygiene and sanitation needs no emphasis and one of the primary tasks of the foundation is to contribute positively in the field. As a result of lack of awareness people residing in far flung areas are neither very good at nor are they keen in improving their state. The foundation aims to achieve a satisfactory result in the field by adopting following measures:
Making people aware about the need to have covered toilets and by involving them in constructing makeshift toilets.
Sensitizing medical authorities on the need of spraying health and hygiene chemicals in open drainage to stop breeding of mosquitoes thereby contributing towards eradication of menace of diseases like Dengue and Malaria.
Increasing Awareness about the need to have mosquito nets and adoption of anti-fly and anti-mosquito measures.
Increasing awareness among pubescent girls on the need to maintain hygiene by adopting healthy measures.
