Dr.A.V Baliga Institute of Social Sciences & Rural Management, Brahmavara

Dr. A. V. Baliga Institute of Social Sciences and Rural Management was established in the academic year 2007-08 under the aegis of Dr. A. V. Baliga Charities, Mumbai. The institution is located in a 23-acre campus at Haradi, Brahmavara. A Rural Medical Center and a Home for Senior Citizens are also located in the same campus. This is an ideal atmosphere for students to develop an interest in Social Work and Community Development. The institution is also supported by Dr. A. V. Baliga Memorial Hospital (located just 14 kms away) through a Psychiatry Center, De-addiction Center, Family Counseling Center, Child Guidance Clinic, Memory Clinic, Occupational Therapy and OCD Clinic. The main aim of establishing the institution has been to create a "like minded work force to provide counseling services and community oriented development programmes to the society".

The institute is affiliated to Mangalore University and offers B.S.W and B.A (Psychology, Rural Development and Journalism) courses under Credit Based Semester Scheme.

B.S.W (Bachelor of Social Work):

The course is aimed at students wanting to take up Social Work as a profession. It's a career choice that aims to help people, communities and societies to develop to their full potential. Social workers help people with their personal and social problems; they aid in access to community resources and work towards developing community support networks.

B.A (Bachelor of Arts):

B.A (Psychology, Rural Development and Journalism) was introduced in the academic year 2009-10. There are many avenues and opportunities in these disciplines, not only in India but also outside India.

Eligibility:

All candidates who have passed Pre-University Examination conducted by the Pre-University Examination Board or any other examination considered equivalent by Mangalore University.

Fee: No capitation and no donation; only nominal fee.
