Diphu Government College was established in the year 1964 in Diphu with the main aim of providing Higher education in the Backward karbi anglong district of Assam, India. History Distinguished local leaders of the time for founding like Chatra sing Teron,Dhaniram Rongpi, Gojendra Nath Goswami, Joysing Doloi Terang, Sar Rongpi, P.K Baruah were among the DGC founder. When the academic session started from July 1965, prof. PK BHUYAN was first principal of college. Thus, began a new venture in the field of Higher education. In 1965 it was taken over by the Government of Assam and since then the college has never look back. Within a few year the college got its new building which provide accomodation for classroom, office, department, staff room, Auditorium, Library etc. facility. There are two Girls' and one Boys' Hostel. There are 23 quarters for Teaching Staff and 8 quarters for Non Teaching Staff in addition to full furnished office residence for the principal Over the year. The college made much progress in infrastructural development out of grant received from several sources like UGC, KAAC, govt. Of india, govt. Of assam and MPLADS fund. The college houses a beautiful botanical Garden cum recreation park, one peace park, a state-of-the-art auditorium with all facilities, air conditioned seminar Hall, Cultural Museum etc. The college has its own playground, Canteen, post office and postal code, medical room, Garden and an indoor game facilitiy. Its has one Basketball Playground.
