More about Dhanauli

Dhanauli is a census town in Agra district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is amongst the biggest villages of Northern India.HistoryDhanauli has also been known as Dhanoli. This had been a small village for a major part of the 20th century. This small village used to revolve around a powerful family of Rawats and Paliwals. These families controlled most of the land and the revenue coming out of it and shared it with the Mughal kingdom of Agra. Paliwals migrated to Dhanauli sometime during 16th-17th century from Rajasthan. They created a small settlement and over a period of time became very rich and powerful. The main occupation of Paliwals was farming and money-lending.Till the late 1980s the village was fairly small. However, a caste related violence in 1991 between Jats and Jatavs, forced the Jatavs of the hinterland to move out and settle in Dhanauli which is fairly close to the Agra city.About DhanauliBefore Independence Pt. ChedaLal Rawat was the mukhiya ( head) of the village and the British Government declared him the Zamindar (landlord) of Dhanauli. After Independence Ganpati Swaroop Rawat was the first elected Pradhan ( head) of the village and aferwards the leading lawyer of Agra Brajendra Singh Rawat was elected as the Head ( pradhan) of the village. From last few years people from Schedule Cast are being elected as the head of the village.Dhanauli is divided in 15 blocks like Nagla Hanuman, Nanda ka nangla,Rawat Chowk, Nagla Lekhraj etc. Lands has been acquired by the U.P. Government in Dhanauli for Civil Terminal or domestic air port in agra. Major proportion of land has been acquired from the family of Brajendra Singh Rawat.
