Dev Deepawali is one of the famous festivals of Hindu which is celebrated in Benares on the occasion of Kartik Poornima and start by holy Vedic mantras chanted by priests to please and welcome the God, sparkling fire crackers and a bunch of Diyas at the ghats of Ganga.
It is believed that Lord Shiva's first footsteps in Varanasi were in Kandwa where one of the oldest temples (10th Century) of India "The Kardameshwar Mahadev Temple" is situated.

Kardameshwar Mahadeva Temple is located at the outer-skirt of the city about 5–6 km from Banaras Hindu University Main Gate. The temple is surrounded by a beautiful pond. Kardameshwar Mahadeva Temple is situated in Kandwa. Kandwa is a census town in Varanasi district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Kandwa is also known as "The First Destination" of the famous Panchkroshi Kashi Parikrama.
