DERRA CABBALLO

If the smell of the country and horses mean anything to you and if waking up in the morning looking forward to good riding in the open terrai forest and good food is your ideal vacation then the Derra Cabballo should be your next weekend away. A 40 acre stud farm in Uttarakhand, in the rich terrai farmland belt, our home, surrounded by mango trees, English thoroughbreds and some locally bred horses and ponies is now open to you.
LOCATION:
Our farm is located at a distance of almost 300 kilometers from Delhi. Just short of the foot hills of the Himalayas. Several hill stations of the Kumaon are at a 2 to 3 hour distance from the farm. The Dohra Dam is but a few kilometers down the road and the terrai jungle at a distance of 6 to 7 kilometers. The entire area is nothing but farmlands, jungle, little villages, dams, rivers and nomad settlements. The Jim Corbett National Park, Pilibhit Tiger Reserve and the Dudhwa National Park are 2 to 3 hours away as well.
PREMISES:
The farm has a total of 3 rooms available (each with an attached bath and toilet). A kitchen open all through the day and a bar/recreational space. The 40 acres are principally for the horses and their fodder and other everyday farm animals. There is a small pond on the farm for fishing and a little boat for children to splash about with, a swimming pool to relax in on our typically hot and sunny mornings, fresh air to breath and a barbeque to be used as one fancies. In brief everything one could possibly desire in the open expanses of the Indian countryside.
ACTIVITIES:
- Horse riding
- Horse Carriage Rides
- Bullock Cart Rides
- Jeep Rides in the Jungle.
- Tractor Rides.
- Picnics in any of the surrounding areas. The banks of the Dam or in a picturesque meadow deep within the jungle.
- For those interested in working with the horses or on the farm in general can do so on advance notice.
- A neighbouring village magic show.
- Live music from our local inhabitants.
- For the more adventurous: cross country horse trail rides from a daylong to overnight to 3 nights maximum. However for this; specific arrangements need to be made, so please contact us directly for details.

HOW TO GET HERE FROM DELHI:
- Train: there are 3 options:
1. The Ranikhet Express (an overnight journey)
2. The Uttaranchal Sampark Kranti Express (a 6 hour day jourbey)
3. The Anand Vihar Shatabdi (a 4 and a half hour journey)
Stop to get off at is Rudrapur which is 25 kilometers from the farm.
- Road: 266km to Kichha (the closest town)
1. Take the AH2/NH 87 upto Rampur (after Moradabad).
2. Rampur to Rudrapur then Kichha, the Sitargunj road till pipalya chawraha and then 4 kilometers down the road.
- Air: an air strip at Pantnagar university (40 minute flight) at a 25 kilometer distance from the farm.
PERSONAL NOTE: After having lived this wonderful yet difficult life for over 5 years now we are ready to share the wonders of rural India and the beauty and richness of a life that most of us don’t have the opportunity or the time to experience. And so we invite all horse and nature lovers to come join us and be a part of our everyday life.
Also we do not teach horse riding and so guests are required to bring their own boots, helmets and whips.
