Deoria- The Name is Enough

The Deoria District came into existence on March 16, 1946, being separated from the Gorakhpur District. It is believed that the name Deoria is derived from Devaranya or possibly Devpuria. According to official gazetteers, the district was named "Deoria" after its headquarters in Deoria, and the term Deoria generally means a place where there are temples. The name Deoria probably developed because of the existence of important temples to Shiva, called Somnath Temple, and the goddess Durga, called Deorahi Temple on the northern bank of the Kurna,Gaytri mandir,Balaji mandir,Gaushala hanumaan mandir,shayam mandir etc

देवरिया
देवरिया (Deoria) भारत के उत्तर प्रदेश प्रान्त का एक शहर एवं जिला मुख्यालय है । देवरिया नगर गोरखपुर से क़रीब 50 किमी दक्षिण-पूर्व में स्थित है। देवरिया के पास में बुद्ध की मृत्यु एवं अत्येष्टि के लिए प्रसिद्ध कसिया एक प्रसिद्ध तीर्थस्थल है।

देवरिया जनपद : एक विहंगमावलोकन
ऐतिहासिक दृष्टि से देवरिया कौशल राज्य का भाग था । जनपद के विभिन्न भागों में बहुत सारे पुरातात्विक अवशेष मिले हैं जैसे :- मंदिर, मूर्तियाँ, सिक्के, बौद्धस्तूप, मठ आदि । बहुत सारी कथाएँ भी इसकी प्राचीन गतिशील जीवनता को सत्यापित करती हैं । कुशीनगर जनपद जो कुछ साल पहले तक देवरिया जनपद का ही भाग था का पौराणिक नाम कुशावती था और भगवान राम के पुत्र कुश यहाँ राज्य करते थे और भगवान बुद्ध की परिनिर्वाण स्थली भी यही है । देवरिया का पौराणिक और ऐतिहासिक महत्व है । देवरिया जनपद के रुद्रपुर में प्रसिद्ध प्राचीन शिवलिंग है जो बाबा दुग्धेश्वर के नाम से ग्रंथों में वर्णित है और इस क्षेत्र की जनता जनार्दन इनको बाबा दुधनाथ के नाम से पुकारती है । इतिहास की माने तो रुद्रपुर में रुद्रसेन नामक राजा का किला था और इसी कारण यह रुद्रपुर कहलाया पर मेरे विचार से भगवान रुद्र (शिव) की पुरी (नगरी) होने के कारण इसका नाम रुद्रपुर पड़ा होगा । सरयू नदी के तट पर बसे बरहज की धार्मिक महत्ता है । दूर-दूर से श्रद्धालु यहाँ आते हैं । स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में भी देवरिया पीछे नही रहा और अंग्रेजों के विरुद्ध बिगुल फूँक दिया । शहीद रामचंद्र इण्टरमिडिएट कालेज बसंतपुर धूसी (तरकुलवा) के कक्षा आठ का एक छात्र बालक रामचंद्र ने देवरिया में भारतीय तिरंगे को लहराकर शहीद रामचंद्र हो गया और सदा के लिए अमर हो गया ।

देवरिया जनपद : भाषा एवं धर्म
देवरिया जनपद में मुख्य रूप से हिन्दी भाषा बोली जाती है ।देवरिया जनपद की कुल जनसंख्या की लगभग ९६ प्रतिशत जनता हिन्दी, लगभग ३ प्रतिशत जनता उर्दू और एक प्रतिशत जनता के बातचीत का माध्यम अन्य भाषाएँ हैं । बोली की बात करें तो ग्रामीण जनता के साथ-साथ अधिकांश शहरी जनता भी प्रेम की बोली भोजपुरी बोलती है । कुल जनसंख्या की दृष्टि से इस जनपद में लगभग चौरासी प्रतिशत हिन्दू, लगभग पंद्रह प्रतिशत मुस्लिम और एक प्रतिशत अन्य धर्म को मानने वाले हैं । इस जनपद की जनता आपस में प्रेम-भाव से रहते हुए सबके दुख-सुख में सहभागी बनती है । या यूँ कहें "देवरिया जनपद रूपी उपवन को हिंदू, मुस्लिम, सिख, इसाई, बौद्ध आदि पुष्प अपनी सुगंध से महकाते हैं और ये सुगंध आपस में मिलकर पूरे भारत को गमकाती है ।

Shahid Samarak (Ramlila Maidan, Deoria)

Ramlila Maidan of Deoria is one of the freedom-fight places where a student of class 8th of Basantpur- dhoosi, RamChandra Vidrarthi, was shot dead on Aug'14' 1942 during freedom- fight struggle.

Hanuman Mandir, Deoria

Hanuman Mandir is located at RaghavNagar,Deoria & is one of the 'siddh' places of Deoria. A large no. of followers can be seen on each Tuesday.

Somnath Mandir, Deoria

A 'Shiv Mandir' located at kasia road, north of railway line, Deoria.

Dugdheswar Mandir, Rudrapur

Dugdheswar Mandir is on the main pilgrim's of the northeast. It is one of the old historical 'Shiv ' temples situated at approx. 2 km. north of Rudrapur town.

Dirgheshwar Mandir, Majouliraj

An old historical 'Shiv Mandir' situated at Majouliraj town is called to be worship place of 'Guru Dronacharya' of Mahabharat.

A place of cultural & historical importance 'Kushinagar' is located at 34 km away from Deoria district headquarter at Kasia road. Kushinagar is currently situated in Kushinagar(Padrauna ) District. This place was kingdom of Kush (elder son of Ram) and world famous as 'Parnirvan Sthal of Lord 'Budha'.

Chauri Chaura-
Chauri Chaura is located at 26 km away from Deoria district headquarter at Gorakhpur -road. This place is situated in Gorakhpur district now.

Fazilnagar (Pawanagar)
As believed, 24th 'tirthankar' Lord Mahavir Swami received 'Parinirvan' here at 543 B.C. This place is currently located at Kushinagar District
