Himalayas are one of the youngest mountain range in the world and one of the most majestic, grand and picturesque mountain systems. Since times immemorial, it has allured adventures and explorers, pilgrims and sages alike. The Indian mythology is replete with the description of Himalayas in most of its scriptures & literature. The highest peak of the world adorn its crown and provide perpetual show covered-glaciers, the source of mighty river system of not only Punjab, Gangetic plains but also that of Nepal and China. The Himalayan cradle is full of verdant valleys resplendent with enchanting lakes and gushing of the most precipitous ravines, swift, cascading falling rivers that cut across the deepest gorges and provide one of the most breath taking and beautiful site of the lovers of nature the Himalayas are the store house of some of the highest living spices of both planet and animal like alike. The flora and fauna are so diverse and rich that it provides some kind of uniqueness to its eco system, which stands out in contrast to the other Eco systems.
Himalayas in Himachal Pradesh:-
The physio-graphic of Himachal Pradesh is portrayed with an intricate mosaic of hills, valleys, magnificent mountain ranges of soaring heights 7 snow clad peaks having altitude ranging from 450 mts to 6500 meters. above the sea level . The white snow covered mountain ranges witness increase in its elevation from south west to north east providing the most important physiographic characteristic of the state. The five finger like divisions of the state from the south to north are:-

1 Shivaliks or the outer Himalayas [650Mtrs]
2 lesser Himalayas [1500 to 2400mtrs]
3 Dhauladhar ranges [3000 to 4500mtrs ]
4 grater himalayas [4800 to 6500mtrs ]
5 trance Himalaya [

What is trekking……….?

A trek is different from mountaineering, as it does not require special skills and equipment's to do the same. Besides, trekking always refer to walking on thrills. Even through, some treks venture near glaciers and crossing of small glacial rivulets, they do not match the fulfillment of any Himalayan mountaineering adventures. Most of the treks are in the elevations between the 500 to 4000 meters only in the case of high altitude trekking one requires the exposure to basic mountaineering Skills, for which special permission is sought from the govt. of Himachal Pradesh , none of the treks available envisage the skills required for mountaineering .
