GEOGRAPHY:

Boalmari is located at 23°23′30″N 89°41′00″E / 23.3917°N 89.6833°E

. It has 35278 units of house hold and total area 272.34 km². Boalmari Upazila (faridpur district) with an area of 272.34 km, is bounded by madhukhali upazila on the north, alfadanga upazila on the south, nagarkanda and faridpur sadar upazilas on the east and mohammadpur and Alfadanga upazilas on the west. Main rivers are madhumati, Old Kumar; Naidaer Beel is noted.

Boalmari (Town) is now a municipality with an area of 4.38 km and population of 22395; male 50.45%, female 49.55%. It has 9 wards and 18 mahallas. Literacy rate among the town people is 44.1%.

Administration Boalmari thana, now an upazila, was established in 1982. The upazila consists of 11 union parishads, 173 mouzas and 255 villages.

Archaeological heritage Nine-domed Satoir Shahi Jami Mosque (c. Sultan Alauddin Hussain Shah period).

Population 190159; male 52%, female 48%; Muslim 94.1%, Hindu 4.8%, Christian 1.1%;

Land use Total cultivable land 21159.74 hectares, fallow land 5802.02 hectares; single crop 39%, double crop 51% and treble crop land 10%; land under irrigation is 80%.

Land control Among the peasants 30% are landless, 30% small, 25% intermediate and 15% rich; cultivable land per head 0.23 hectare.

Value of land The market value of the land of the first grade is approximately Tk 7000 per 0.01 hectare.

Main crops Paddy, jute, potato, sugarcane, wheat, onion, brinjal, chilli and betel leaf.

Main fruits Mango, jackfruit, black bury, litchi, banana, papaya, and jamrul.

Communication facilities Roads: pucca 100 km and mud road 380 km; railways 24 km, waterways 19 nautical mile.

Traditional transport Palanquin, horse carriage, bullock cart. These means of transport are either extinct or nearly extinct.

Cottage industries Weaving 50, bamboo and cane work 286, goldsmith 32, blacksmith 60, potteries 100, wood work 85, tailoring 170, welding 10.

Hats, bazars and fairs Hats and bazars are 30, most noted of which are Kadirdi, Boalmari, Moindia and Bhatdi; fairs 10, most noted of which are Koira Kali Bari Mela, Chiter Bazar Laxmi Mela, Katagar Mela.

Main exports Paddy, jute, onion, garlic, date molasses and banana.

As of the 1991 Bangladesh census, Boalmari has a population of 190159. Males constitute 50.63% of the population, and females 49.37%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 94073. Boalmari has an average literacy rate of 27% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate.
