Beliram Degchiwala

In the annals of culinary history there would be very few personalities who are remembered with such reeverence as Beliram Of Lahore . He lived in the late eighteenth and mid nineteenth century during the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and was famous for his very special art of cooking.

The Fame of Beliram Degchiwala soon caught the attention of the ruler of Punjab who was a great connoisseur of fine cooking . It is said that it was Maharaja Ranjit Singh himself who named his famous dish of Boneless mutton garnished with yoghurt "Gosht Beliram" and the name of Beliram is remembered even to this day along with the dish that made him the undisputed king of cooking .
